Resolution
The
University of West Alabama Faculty Senate
WHEREAS,
the members of The University of West Alabama Faculty Senate are
the official representatives of the University's faculty
representing approximately 125 full-time and part-time faculty
educating approximately 1900 students;
WHEREAS,
providing students with a high quality faculty and staff at all
levels, K through university, is the single most important element
of public education;
WHEREAS,
each faculty and staff member deserves adequate compensation and
fringe benefits;
WHEREAS,
during periods of economic difficulty each deserves fair treatment
and protection;
WHEREAS,
failure to provide public universities with adequate funding will
adversely affect students through increased tuition and fees as
well as possible elimination of vital academic programs and extra
curricular activities;
WHEREAS,
failure to provide faculty and staff at all levels with adequate
compensation and fringe benefits in a fair and just manner would
adversely affect the ability of our educational institutions to
attract and retain quality professional educators to educate the
students of Alabama to be productive workers and citizens;
NOW,
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate of The
University of West Alabama expresses its support of and agreement
with the PROPOSAL TO ACHIEVE FAIRNESS DURING PERIODS OF
PRORATION as submitted by The Presidents and Chancellors
of Alabama's Public Universities on March 1, 2001.
