A Resolution
by the Faculty of the University of West Alabama
Whereas:
The Faculty Senate of the University of West Alabama in the Summer of 2003
passed a vote of “no confidence” in certain members of the board of trustees but
to no avail;
Whereas:
These same board members have, by their interference in the day-to-day running
of the University, forced SACS, the University’s primary accrediting agency, to
place our University on probation;
Whereas:
These same board members continue to waste the University’s limited funds in
lawsuits against this very University;
Whereas:
These same board members have steadfastly ignored the grievances of the
University community represented in the Student Government, Staff Senate, and
Faculty Senate as well as the UWA Alumni Association;
Whereas:
By these and a multitude of other grievances certain board members have injured
and continue to injure the good name of the University and jeopardized efforts
at retention and recruitment;
Therefore, be it
resolved: The faculty of the University of West
Alabama calls for the following members to resign immediately from the board of
trustees for the best interests of the University:
Mr. Dwight Duke
Mr. Robert D. Keahey
Mr. Preston C. Minus
Dr. Doris Oliveira
Mr. John Smith
Mr. Thed Spree
Mr. Nat Watkins
Further:
The faculty implores the Governor, as chair of the UWA board of trustees, to ask
for the resignations of the above mentioned board members;
Further:
The faculty implores the Governor, as chair of the UWA board of trustees, to
require that board members suing the University use their own money rather than
that of the University as this constitutes a gross misuse of power.
For the Faculty
